Tillicoultry is one of the five Hillfoots towns famous in the mid 19th to early 20th century for its woollen mills. At the peak of the industry, Tillicoultry had no less than 12 woollen mills. Today it is home to one Britain's largest furniture stores and the successful Sterling Mills Outlet Village. In the nearby town of Alva you will find the Mill Trail Visitor Centre, which has displays giving a detailed history of the woollen mills, as well as Clackmannanshire.
Tillicoultry is in Scotland’s smallest county - Clackmannanshire - The Wee County, as it is fondly known.
True to its motto, 'Look About Ye', if you look around there is plenty to see and do within Clackmannanshire and the surrounding areas. Places to visit include Alloa Tower (National Trust for Scotland) and Clackmannan Tower (Historic Scotland).
Situated within reach of the cities Edinburgh and Glasgow and their respective airports, which makes it an ideal destination for touring the Central Belt.
